About Me
Born in Key West, Nikki Braziel’s first achievement was being awarded the rare and whimsical title of the Conch Republic’s “Baby Ambassador to the World.”
Raised in the frigid winters of the northern suburbs, if she could have forgiven Chicago for its grayness, she never would have left. She moved to Denver for access to a historical archive—naturally. There, she found a literary arts home at Lighthouse Writers Workshop where she took a decade of classes, before pursuing an MFA in genre fiction from Western Colorado University.
Her fiction has been published in Sunday Morning Transport and Asimov’s.
Heaven Is a Labor Union began as her graduate thesis. Her own great-grandfather worked as a button maker in New York, where his head was bashed in by a strikebreaker. Complete at 89,000 words, this cross-genre blend of historical fiction and speculative fantasy is available upon request.
When she isn’t writing, she’s gardening or hanging out with cats. She’s obsessed with weightlifting and astrology. She is a Capricorn-sun, Taurus-moon, and Libra-rising. Which is to say, she’s hard-working, diplomatic, and sensitive, and believes that Dostoevsky quote, “Beauty will save the world.”
